A: Many books make plumbing look easy. However, that “small” repair may not be as insignificant as it looks:
o Your plumbing system is pressure-oriented. A quarter-turn too much could have negative sometimes devastating, consequences elsewhere
o Would you know how to spot potential problems? Or know if those drips on the pipe exiting the water heater mean anything? Waking up to a flooded basement is no joke
o If the part you’ve chosen isn’t the right size or quality, it may seize up or snap off causing a much larger and expensive repair sooner than you think
A plumber’s job is 90% detective work and 10% physical repair. Becoming a competent detective, however, takes 5-years of training and many, many more in the field. With plumbing, little problems lead to bigger ones.
A: These plans create the perception that a plan members’ emergency will receive priority status. However, there’s often a wait time of between 4-hours to 2-days. Plumbing troubles require fast response times and efficient fixes so that’s what we focus on.
A: We don’t, just because there are no standard homes or bathrooms. Every one is different and people’s tastes are very personal.
A: It’s best to do some homework beforehand:
• Visit some shops and get a feel for different makes, patterns, levels of quality, and pricing
• Flip through some magazines for ideas
• Create a list and have some samples and questions in mind
